![]() Q A J A Q P I X Once a day, more or less, an image to ponder... A very deep V, fixed skeg racing kayak, made by Maligiaq for the races of the 2005 competition. In the lead up, he decided not to go, but the kayak did. Almost 10 inches depth to sheer, 18" narrow, hardly any primary, and fast as a demon from hell. No one else in the Sisimiut contingent would go near it! Maligiaq offered, but both Cheri and I both decided not to borrow it for races. We never had time to get the other seven seal decklines processed and on, and so it wouldn't have passed inspection. Despite its depth to sheer, hell for a westerner to wriggle into. Note the very small, uncanted hoop. She couldn't get in, and I had an interesting couple of pre-comp miles in it, while still in Sisimiut, and a very painful skin-giving, entry and exit. I do sometimes regret not using it. The long race was all beam wind waves and I'll bet it would have really flown, in these conditions, one chine then the next... ![]() Turner Wilson, © 2005 Archive / Today High resolution prints available by request.
