Click on the links below for high resolution Quicktime movie of the roll that you can then save to your computer! (These files are in the 10MB to 25MB range so they may take a bit of time to load, depending on your connection speed.)

Ragnar Midtskogen came to us last year and took a rolling lesson, one off. But after he capsized in rather cold conditions in Long Island Sound this fall, he was a good deal more motivated to work on bracing and rolling effectively so that he could better handle the occasional edgy conditions that come up if you paddle regularly. He is 73 years old, and while he is active and athletic, he is not quite as flexible as he used to be! But he is learning to rely on his growing understanding, and he overcoming his initial need to rip that head out of the water first! ;-)

The first clip has him rolling to a sculling brace for support in a low volume kayak...

The second clip has him progressing to one of his boats and effectively making the scull the adaptaion that allows him confidence to finish...

The third clip has him demonstrating a more relaxed roll, confident in his sweep, able to let it go, relaxing his head and laying on the water a bit more as he sweeps up...
